Custom Live Edge Shelves

Shelving for living rooms, kitchens & more.

Numerous customers have use our wood slabs to build custom shelves, and a handful have also had us assemble and finish them.  Live edge slab shelves are commonly used as an alternative to kitchen cabinets as well as for showing off pictures and knick-knacks in living rooms.  Others have used these shelves in bathrooms, though we don't typically recommend live edge wood for this application.

A Few Things To Consider with Live Edge Shelves

When using live edge slabs for shelves, there are a few things you should know.

  1. The wood will be more structurally sound and less prone to warping and cracking.  Typically shelves are around 12" deep.  Since most of our slabs are 30" or wider, the pith, or center of the wood is removed.  This area is typically what causes warping, cracking and other issues with live edge slabs.
  2. They're typically cheaper than cabinets.  Although live edge slabs, especially large ones, aren't cheap, they are compared to kitchen cabinets.  This is why those looking for a custom look in their home often choose live edge wood instead of custom cabinets.  It looks beautiful once finished and adds a level of detail to any space.
  3. They can tie together a kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms.  If your looking to tie together different rooms of your home with similar design elements, custom live edge shelves can do just that.  These can be designed to match dining room tables we make, as well as coffee tables, foyer tables, and more.
